1st Step teaching at Politeknik (Malaysia technical institution) has started.

Last Wednesday I start my career path at Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah, Behrang, Tanjung Malim Perak. It was my second day actually at Politeknik. All is new for me here so my adrenaline is stimulating lot in my blood, my heart beat is fast. Imagine my feeling during that time, that morning I drive from Kuala Lumpur to Behrang that takes me about 45minutes for 75km distance journey and I arrive about 10minutes before 8am. I punch my card and went to my place where they have allocated me. Actually the management already give me my time table a week before, however suddenly one man pass me a new time table. Oh my GOD, I have class today at 2.15 pm Entrepreneurship subject for last semester student from Diploma in Electrical. Another headache, as a last semester student of course their expectation from me is high. I just know it today that I have to teach that subject. Quickly I go and search for a lecturer who teach same subject. Luckily someone introduce me to her. She lends me her syllabus and reference book. So before I enter the class I study first and make some preparation.Another shocking episode for me, when I am enter the class. 80% of the student is male, wow. I used to teach 80% of female student in a class during at Unikop. I am really nervous actually but I just stand in front of the class confidently. Introduce my name, education background and work experience. I am the lecturer here so, I set my rule. ……………………………........ Rule number 1: Always respect the lecturer …………………................. Rule number 2: If you don’t like the lecturer follow rule number 1. …........................................ “You have to come early before I come to the class, if you come after me it show that you not respecting me”.........................“Your assessment mark is in my hand, if you think you want to score a high mark, attend my class”Then I let the student introduce their self. This session really make me frustrated, although they are last semester student, it look like they don’t know where they are heading too in life. No wonder the number of unemployment graduate still high in Malaysia. As politeknik also contribute to this number. Let me take this as a challenge and bring awareness in their life to become ambitious. Then I start teaching, at first I don’t get a good respond from class. The class is silent no one dare to speak and answer my question. Oh, this is not the way I want, fortunately slowly the class pick up with my style of teaching. Look like all this male student participates actively as I relate why I teach in their daily life. From my experience in education field I found out that female student is really shy to talk or give opinion in the class although most of the student is female. They will take time, only when they feel comfortable with the lecture then only they dare to speak in class. I finish that class with a relief feeling. The journey of teaching in Politeknik has started; there will be no turning back. I have start the 1st step there will be a long path to go. Wish me luck.

My fulltime work is a lecturer but I am also a part time student.

Sound confusing but that is the reality, during day time I am working as lecturer. Teaching the future leader of tomorrow to be someone that will contribute for our country. Then on the evening I will change my status by being a student. Twist my position, right now I am pursing my postgraduate study in Master in Business Administration (MBA) at University Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam in part time mode that will take me 2 and half year to finish that is expected on the second half of 2011 by the time I reach 27. This semester I am taking three subjects. Pursuing MBA is a ticket for me to move further in education line, besides I can share my knowledge to my student. Being a lecturer is not only teaching a student base on syllabus and ensures they will score good mark for that subject. It involves guidance to the student how to enter the real life out there. Open up their mind on what are happening now especially current affairs. I belief in two way communication for my class. My work is a priority however I also have to be a smart student, getting a good result is my aiming as we in Malaysia still practicing result oriented. I will try my best to get an excellent result. Time will tell how I will be performing for my postgraduate study.

Government of Malaysia Servant.

Surprise, I am facing a really hectic week. Everything seems to move very fast for me. On 15 of January 2009 I already become part of Government Malaysia Servant by being a lecturer at politeknik (Malaysia Technical Institution) and the next day on 16 January I report my duty at Politeknik Behrang, Tanjung Malim, Perak. Actually I have applied for this position long time back on June 2008, have been going for interview last October 2008 and I get my letter of offer just last week 10 January on Saturday.Education field will be my blood; I will carry on my career into this field. Teaching politeknik student will be more challenging for me, as this student IQ level is not same like university student. However it not a big deals, I will teach base on their understanding. I will be teaching completely different subject from Unikop, here at politeknik I have to teach economic subject, promotion, human resource and involve in student ko-kuriculum activities. I need to be fully prepared.I will give my best to the student to whom I will be teaching. I always pray for my student success. I hope the knowledge that I give to them will be benefited for their whole life. “I will give my best and I also expecting great performance from my student”.
People always thing that by joining a government agency we will be in our comfort zone. For me it is not the end of my life there is still many more I have to achieve in my life. One think that I really worried right now is my postgraduate class. My class is evening track from 6.30pm to 10.00pm, Monday to Wednesday. Kuala Lumpur to Behang is 70km where it takes me about 45 minutes. Am I able to make it………

Postgraduate Induction at Eco Dusun Resort.

Last weekend I have been to Eco Dusun Resort at 58 km Bentong, Pahang the place is located near to Bentong but not yet reach Bentong. I have been there for 2 days one night because of induction for my postgraduate. I have started my master class and this is my second week. The best part of this induction is I don’t know anyone, same for those who attend this induction. All of us just meet during class hour for only 2 classes and my classmate who attends the induction is only 6 people out of 15. There are about 60 person join the induction and most of them from Executive Master in Business Administration where all of them have been working for more than 5 years.
There is something wrong with Malaysia education system, the rate of gender is not balance. Percentage of gender on the induction is 70% female and 30% male. I think the man have to make the comeback in education. Or female will be the main domination in our higher level of education institution. Then refer to the age, most of the man who join master program is already married and has a stable level of income, while for ladies most of them are still young and just at their early 20’s and middle of 20’s.
This induction is really fun and relaxing without any pressure, they treat us professionally. We are all adult so, just give the instruction we will follow. There no need for trainer to screaming or scolding. On the first day we do the abseiling, I have been doing this for couple of time however I get an opportunity to do the spider style for the first time. Really enjoy it. Then at night we are having a classroom activity, not a motivation session but more to group activity that make us knowing other participant. It finish at 11.30pm, because of so tired I have a good sleep that night.
Next morning we having exercise and go for jungle trekking for 1 hour I think it has been a long time I never get sweating like this, then after the morning tea we have been ask to make the “rakit” from bamboo. We gather first to hear the instruction, then the process start. My group is really fantastic we build a tough “rakit”. We use it for three rounds and the structure is still maintained.
Finally the induction has come to the end and we go back to Kuala Lumpur at 3 pm that evening. I get many thing from this induction like knowing new friends, especially those guys who have been working more than 5 years, they are really fun although already have a children. I am sure their children and wife will be surprise if seeing them like this. We sharing our idea on study and work besides get to know other person background. Make good co-operation, even we just know each other but we communicate like we have been know that person for a long time.
Some people may think that induction is really boring, but most of the participant is from group of people who have been working that contribute to 60% while those another 40% is full time student. People give more commitment when they get matured.
